We got to see the the world's largest trebuchet,
measuring 18 metres high and weighing in at 22 tonnes Trebuchet ! Very Cool.

Country views

Queen Elizabeth I is 'friends' with Robert Dudley and famously visits Kenilworth Castle in July 1575. There, she is entertained for 19 days with extravagant feasting, fireworks, hunting, acrobats, music and dancing. This visit is thought to have inspired William Shakespeare to write A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

After the Battle of Edgehill in 1642, the castle is in Parliamentary hands. They want to destroy it but the Earl of Monmouth successfully petitions that it might be ’slighted with as little spoil as to the dwelling house as might be’. The ‘slighting’ consists of blowing up the outer wall of the Keep and demolishing the wall of the Outer Ward.
